TABARKA, Tunisie

We choose Tabarka for its exceptional site, between sea and mountain. The white sandy beaches are framed by rocky spurs, pine woods and cork oaks. The crystalline sea hides in its depths the precious red coral. The characteristic silhouette of the Genoese Fort, perched on an islet, is the emblem of the Tabarka. The mountainous hinterland is the promise of fantastic excursions and hikes around the village of Ain Draham, starting point of a vast forest.

What to see?

FORESTS AND WILD COAST
Tabarka's downtown has kept an old-fashioned look of small colonial town. Take a refreshing drink at the Café des Andalous, a Moorish cafe located in the heart of the city, then stroll along the pretty marina where the fishing boats rub shoulders with the pleasure boats. Not far away are the jewelers who offer wonders in coral beads, the pride of the city. The artisans also make beautiful cork objects, harvested in the region, and carved wood. Earn a high point of the city to enjoy the sublime panorama on the bay. The sunset makes flaming Aiguilles, high rocks eroded by the sea. In the interior appears a mountainous landscape covered with a thick forest mantle. This is the village of Aïn Draham, unusual in Tunisia with its houses with red roofs stepped on the hillside. Random mountain roads await bucolic landscapes and charming lakes in the forest.

What to do ? DIVING OR HIKING

The small resort will offer you more than its beaches and the animation of its hotels.Appreciated by boaters, it offers many opportunities for sea excursions to nearby coves or to the island of La Galite. Tabarka has a long tradition of scuba diving and spectacular dive sites. In addition, there is a remarkable golf course by the sea, thalassotherapy centers (Tabarka) and thermal baths (near Aïn Draham). In the summer, Tabarka comes to life with several events under the sign of jazz and world music. The north-west of Tunisia, with its thick forest and unspoiled nature, is ideal for hiking, nature watching and hunting. Two prominent archaeological sites are also in the region: Chemtou (marble quarrying, Numidian civilization) and Bulla Regia (underground Roman houses).

What to eat?

LANGOUSTE OR MARCASSIN

During your stay in Tabarka, do not miss to enjoy a lobster on the terrace of one of the restaurants of the port. They will treat you to fish and seafood. The hotels of the seaside resort serve a good kitchen. You can also dine in an old hotel in the city center, contemplating the superb panorama on the coast. In Aïn Draham, the hunt for wild boar, you will be served a delicious stew of wild boar.
