The 51 th edition of the National Day of the mat will be held from March 21 to 26 in Ghardaia under the theme "The carpet, a symbol of culture and identity."

Having become for more than half a century an essential annual meeting for tour operators and other visitors to the M'zab region during the spring school holiday period, the organizers aim to position the Algerian carpet as a work of art. art and an artistic know-how full of creativity, transmitted from generation to generation by weavers guardians of traditions and culture.
According to the organizers, the event also represents an appropriate opportunity to enhance and promote handicraft products, highlight its specificities and introduce visitors to the latest creations of artisans in the Ghardaïa region, thus contributing to its development. economic and its tourist attractiveness.
This festival, which celebrates the beauty of the carpet, its colors and its textures, also aims to preserve this cultural heritage linked to crafts, to highlight an income-generating activity for many weavers, mostly Housewives.
In anticipation of this national event, many beautification operations in the M'zab valley, which has four municipalities, will be initiated by municipal services, notably from Ghardaïa and Bounoura.
The organizing committee is working to ensure good organization of this 51 th edition of the Festival of traditional carpets, in order to ensure its success and stimulate tourism and handicraft.
This edition includes an exhibition and sale of handicrafts, a parade of floats decorated with hand-woven carpets as well as representations of the habits and customs of different regions, fantasia shows and other local folk arts. The event is an added value for the development of the local economy and will also be marked by the organization of several sports activities, it was said.
