Six good reasons to visit Biskra


The pearl of the Sahara 'as some call it. 'Queen of Ziban' as others call her. Located at the gates of the desert, Biskra is an oasis city that you must have visited at least once in your life. Ancient Vescara in Roman times exhibits its majestic canyons, millennial ksours, rich palm groves and fabulous historic sites. The Hungarian composer and ethnomusicologist Belà Bartok stayed there in 1913, in order to collect popular and folk songs from the region. André Gide put his suitcases there in 1893. Jardin Landon :

Created in 1872 by Albert Landon de Longeville (1844-1930), this lush garden is made up of a hundred species of trees and flowers: plane tree, lily, carob tree, acacia, bitter orange, eucalyptus, oleander ... A real corner of paradise ! Jardin Landon was classified as a municipal heritage in 1959, then a protected site in 1992.

Hammam Salihine :

In Roman times, these hot springs were known as Ad Piscinam (the Baths of the Saints). Today, many spa guests come to treat their rheumatism in this thermal complex located at the foot of Djebel Bou-Ghezal.

Mausoleum of Sidi Zarzour :

Mausoleum topped with a qobba and walls painted in white and green. It is erected in the middle of the wadi whose name it bears. The Sidi Zarzour mausoleum welcomes visitors and pilgrims.

Sidi Okba Mosque :

It is located 17 km south-east of Biskra. Built in 686, it is one of the oldest mosques in the Maghreb. This architectural gem houses the mausoleum where Okba Ibn Nafaâ is buried, hence the name of this mosque. .

Horse carriage ride :

Take a ride in a carriage in Biskra, for a nice visit to this thousand-year-old city dating from Roman times, without tiring its feet, is an excellent idea.
